UEC Math Topic Weighting: Do You Actually Know Which Chapters Matter Most?

Why spreading effort evenly is the biggest mistake

Many students spend equal time on every chapter — and end up losing marks on the high-weight topics (like calculus and trigonometry) while pouring effort into low-frequency ones. UEC math is not evenly distributed across topics. Knowing that distribution is the first step to efficient revision.

SC06 topic frequency, year by year

Based on an analysis of the last five years of SC06 past papers: • Calculus (differentiation and integration): ~28%, a guaranteed long question every year • Trigonometric functions and identities: ~22%, split between MCQ and structured questions • Functions and graph transformations: ~18%, often combined with other chapters • Sequences and series: ~14%, full marks are within reach once the concepts are clear • Vectors and matrices: ~10%, mostly computational • Probability and statistics: ~8%, memorise the formulas and you're covered

An efficient revision plan

A suggested priority order for your revision time: Week 1: focus on calculus (28%) — no blind spots in differentiation or integration Week 2: full trigonometry review, with emphasis on identity proofs Week 3: graph transformations + sequences, interleaved with past-paper questions Week 4: shore up weak chapters + a full mock paper DuckMath orders questions by topic weight, so the system puts the high-frequency topics in front of you first.

How the subjects differ

SC04 is easier than SC06 but covers more ground, so it rewards balanced revision. SC05 and SC06 overlap by roughly 60% — if you're heading into senior science, a solid SC05 base makes SC06 much easier. SC07 leans toward applied mathematics, with a heavier probability-and-statistics component.
